Inland shipping

How can we help you?

The port of Rotterdam is an ideal departure and end point for transporting cargo flows by water via inland shipping. Dutch and European destinations are easily accessible via the Maas, Rhine, Main, Danube, and canals.

Inland shipping is highly suitable for transporting large quantities of dry and wet bulk goods (500 to 15,000 tonnes) and containers, about 50 to 500 per vessel. Depending on the destination, the sailing time varies from less than a day to four days.

CHOOSE YOUR MOST EFFICIENT AND SUSTAINABLE ROUTE

Rotterdam has daily connections for inland shipping transport to more than 100 European destinations. Use Routescanner for an overview of the intermodal connections.

Sustainable transport

Together with our partners, we are working towards zero-emission inland shipping. For example, we are committed to battery-electric and hydrogen-powered shipping. Want to know more about how we are working towards a CO2-neutral port through sustainable transport?

Optimisation of the inland container shipping chain

Achieving our sustainable growth ambitions for container transport in Rotterdam requires intensive collaboration between all players in the chain. We are working with market parties to facilitate the handling of inland container ships and further optimise the chain.
