Making logistics chains more sustainable

How can we help you?

As Europe’s largest logistics hub, the Port of Rotterdam Authority is taking the lead in the transition to future-proof transport. We are committed to advancing sustainable fuels and to building international collaborations that contribute to CO2-neutral transport to and from the port of Rotterdam.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority plays a vital role in making freight transport more sustainable, both for sea-going vessels and for hinterland connections. We thereby focus on strategic autonomy, a robust energy supply, and building on the diverse Rotterdam transport and industry cluster.

Sustainable fuel and propulsion

The fuel switch, from fossil fuels to more sustainable fuels produced from electricity or biomass/waste, such as hydrogen, methanol, methane, ammonia, and biofuels, enables transport emissions to be reduced to net zero. In the port, the use of electricity also plays a key role, particularly through the provision of shore power for vessels and for inland shipping. The Port of Rotterdam Authority is facilitating these changes. Read more about the initiatives currently underway in Rotterdam:
