Road transport
The port of Rotterdam connects directly to the national and European motorway network via the A15. You can unload or load your cargo at the destination, regardless of location or time. Thanks to bridges, tunnels and viaducts, your cargo is smoothly guided through the port area.
For fast and efficient cargo handling, the port offers smart tools and services. Especially for road transport, you can use Hinterland Notification Container (HCN) in Portbase's Road Planning service. It allows carriers to easily pre-notify transport visits to terminals and depots. This ensures smooth handling, reduces waiting times and can help avoid unnecessary trips and delays.
Or use Routescanner. This tool gives insight into the CO2 footprint of your shipments. Routescanner visualises the intermodal network and provides you with suggestions for faster, cheaper and more sustainable trade routes.
CONTAINER EXCHANGE ROUTE
The exchange of containers between Maasvlakte sites requires the most efficient and reliable transport possible. That is why the Container Exchange Route (CER) was constructed. This 17-kilometre closed road network connects many of the terminals, depots, distribution centres and the State Inspection Terminal on the Maasvlakte.
Port of Rotterdam accessibility
To ensure optimal accessibility to the port and strengthen its position as Europe's logistics and industrial hub, we are working with various partners to further improve the port's accessibility. On our Accessible Port page, you will find more information about works, facilities and developments at the port.
MAKE YOUR LOGISTICS SMARTER AND MORE SUSTAINABLE
By avoiding road transport during peak hours, your company can achieve faster turnaround times, reduce fuel consumption and provide a more reliable service. The Handout for Implementing Off-Peak Distribution provides a roadmap and practical tips for implementing off-peak distribution strategies.
