Commuting traffic

11 May 2021
How can we help you?

Port of Rotterdam Authority, Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar, Deltalinqs, Rijkswaterstaat and the municipalities of Voorne aan Zee and Nissewaard are joining forces with the business sector to improve commuting traffic. This is important to both keep the port area attractive for businesses and safeguard Voorne-Putten and port accessibility.

How do I reach the port?

You can reach the port area by car, bicycle, water transport, company transport, and public transport. There are currently many roadworks in Zuid-Holland and the port area (A15). Before you travel, check the latest traffic information.

The Blankenburg Connection

This is a new motorway (A24) connecting Vlaardingen with the A15 near Rozenburg. The Blankenburg Connection improves the accessibility of the port and the region. A toll is required to use this road.

Alternatives to the car

The port area is also accessible by public transport. On Voorne‑Putten, and for example between Distripark Maasvlakte, Maasvlakte Transferium, Maassluis, Brielle, and Spijkenisse, you’ll find several regular and on‑demand bus lines, such as the Maasvlakte Hopper. No public transport nearby? Ask your employer about flexible commuting solutions such as vanpooling or bicycle incentive schemes.

Cycling in the port area

The port is also easy to reach by bike. On the map below you can find all cycle paths in the port. Want to know more about the benefits of business cycling?

Commuting solutions for employers

Every day, employees and clients travel to your organisation in the port area.
Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar and Port of Rotterdam support and advise on flexible mobility solutions for your staff, including car, bike, water transport, company transport, and public transport.

A simplified map showing the Botlek industrial area with waterways in blue and two highlighted roads: Professor Gerbrandyweg and Botlekweg, marked with yellow labels. The A15 highway is indicated on both the left and right sides of the map with yellow boxes. The map uses blue for water, light gray for land, and pink and dark blue lines to represent routes.

Transport concept Reizennaardehaven.nl

With the new platform Reizennaardehaven.nl (available in Dutch only), employees of a group of companies in the Botlek area can easily carpool, vanpool, or take the hopper to work. The new platform brings together various transport options, making commuting to the port more affordable, flexible, and sustainable. Until July 1, 2026, you can travel completely free of charge. Until then and thereafter, you will also receive mileage allowance from your employer.

Custom group transport

Many business parks in the port area have limited or no public transport connections. In those cases, collective company transport — such as a vanpool, shuttle, or coach — can be a good solution. See the Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar toolbox for collective company transport.

Towards a more accessible port

The Port of Rotterdam Authority is a partner of Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar. Together with these partners, we work to improve accessibility through area‑focused initiatives and the deployment of logistics coordinators. Want to know more? Visit the Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar website.
